Description
Late 1930s Figured Silk Blouse – Tailored Women’s Shirt
Authentic late 1930s women’s blouse, tailor-made in dark green figured silk, featuring a refined woven surface with tiny diamond and dot motifs typical of high-quality textiles from the period.
The silk shows a deep, slightly iridescent green tone, achieved through the woven structure rather than printing. The pattern is integral to the fabric, clearly visible from the reverse, and reflects the sophisticated textile production of the late 1930s.
Design & Construction
The blouse has a beautifully balanced late 1930s silhouette, with a sharp pointed collar enhanced by double collar flaps, a distinctive design element of the era.
It fastens with fabric-covered buttons made from the same silk, and the buttonholes are hand finished, indicating careful sartorial workmanship.
The long sleeves end in cuffs designed for cufflink closure, adding a formal and elegant character rarely found in later garments.
This blouse works exceptionally well as a reference garment for costume designers, fashion designers, film and theater wardrobe departments, and for archival study of women’s tailoring before World War II.
Condition & Wearability
Very good vintage condition overall and fully wearable.
Please note that two original fabric-covered buttons are missing, consistent with age and use.
