Description
1940s Lilac Silk Lingerie Dress with Bias Cut Silhouette
An elegant original late 1930s to early 1940s silk lingerie dress in a delicate lilac tone, cut on the bias to create a fluid and naturally sculpted silhouette.
The bodice is enriched by a refined ecru lace collar and front panel decorated with floral shadowwork embroidery and original silk-covered buttons. Long sleeves with shaped cuffs and a soft silk waist ribbon complete the romantic and balanced construction typical of fine mid-century lingerie.
Originally intended as part of a bridal trousseau or luxury homewear wardrobe, this garment can now be styled as a poetic vintage dress, heirloom textile piece, or wedding morning garment.
Comparable in silhouette to late 1930s silk slip dresses, this example reflects the transition between elegant boudoir lingerie and wearable vintage fashion.
