Description
Antique boudoir box with celluloid lid, Catherine Klein pink roses, boudoir box with romantic pink roses & paper covered sides, early 1900.
DESCRIPTION:
Very lovely antique boudoir box with celluloid covered lid, wonderful decoration featuring roses in tones of pale pink and red, I am almost sure that the picture on the lid is a Catherine Klein one, as the style and colors are very close to hers and her artwork was very often used for decoration of this kind of items. The sides of the box are covered in paper with a very busy design of autumnal foliage in tones of brown, terracotta and brick red, safran yellow, moss green… Interior of the box is lined in brown cotton textile and below the textile there are some wooden supports that were intended to contain something (perhaps a hair brush?) that I do not know what could be exactly…. This kind of boudoir boxes were used for many different purposes, for example there are collar boxes, gloves boxes, hankies boxes, photographs boxes and of course, jewels boxes, sewing boxes….
This antique box has its hinges and closure still in place.
HOW TO USE IT:
Wonderful antique box with romantic C. Klein roses to collect and to display in your boudoir, very useful to store some antique treasure and a very nice idea for a special Valentine Day gift!
CONDITIONS:
Conditions of this antique boudoir box are very good, celluloid lid is in very good shape with no ruptures, to signal a small hair on the edge and a small area with two round signs, it seems as something had “touched” the celluloid surface, you can see it well in my 9th photo.
Interior textile has some wear especially where it has contact with the wooden supports positioned below it.
