The cushion is heavy and probably stuffed with sand or sawdust, the piece is covered in gold yellow textile textile and has a pillow made from batiste fabric in ivory color, hand stitched and cutworked in antique stitch. The pillow opens on the long side and has four small mother of pearl buttons as closure.

A little bit of history:
The antique stitch is an embroidery technique that originated in Tuscany and dates back to 1300.
It is performed on fabrics with regular texture (the threads of the weft and of the warp must be equal) usually in white or crude.
Various stitches are used for this embroidery:
The base point is the square point, which can be executed horizontally, vertically and also diagonally. For the geometric figures are used the real point or point passed flat, worked on the straight thread of the canvas, while the removals are executed in the gigliuccio point.
Curly stitch, Grass stitch and steam stitch are used for embossed motifs, while the trimmed patterns are finished with drawstring or festoon stitch and decorated with spirit stitch or lattice pattern or Aemilia Ars.
HOW TO USE IT:
Pretty, Edwardian era pin cushion, wonderful to add to your antique French sewing basket or to give the final touch to your boudoir decoration.
CONDITIONS:
This antique pin cushion is in good conditions, there are no stains, the only thing to signal are two antique mends located near the closure area, visible in my photos.
