Description
Very sweet French petite purse for First Communion fixed to its original cardboard box, period circa 1920’s. This kind of purses were typically made whith much care for one of the most special occasions in a young girl’s life, the First Holy Communion. This small purse is hand sewn and embellished by cream silk ribbonwork, lace and a lovely gold (brass) flowers’ wreath sewn on the small closure. The petite purse is still sewn to its original cardboard box, interior of the box is edged by paper lace, the lid is ornated by a very nice chromo depicting a bounch of roses and flowers with beautiful colors and antique patina.
Conditions of the small purse are wonderful, silk is not dry rot, only some darkening on the back due to age.
The box is not in perfect conditions, structure is still strong but paper lace has ruptures in a coner (see last photo), the lid is a bit crushed in the lower left corner and has a rupture on right side, not visible in the front of the lid, if you want to see more photos I would be glad to send on request.
Measures of the box: 7 1/2″ by 10″. Measures of the purse: 5″ by 6 1/2″, ribbon handle is long 6 1/2″. The small flowers’ wreath has diameter 1 1/4″.
