Antique French bonnet, costume hat for woman with cotton printed fabric pleated band, antique French bonnet signed Maison Bail, Paris.

MEASURE:
7″ by 8″, 5 1/4″ deep (17.8 cm by 20.2 cm, profondità 13.3 cm).

DESCRIPTION:
Very lovely antique French bonnet hat, may be a costume hat, made from light beige cotton fabric, with a pleated band made in printed fabric shoeing a pattern of medallions with baskets of roses, flowers wreaths and ribbons, in tons of dark red, mauve, light blue, beige, pink, strawberry red and green.
The bonnet has a stiff wired structure fixed in its interior side.
The bonnet has a red wax mark, reading “Bail Cotillion, 210 Rue de Rivoli”.

I made some researches about the “Maison Bail”, I have discovered that it was a factory of cotillon accessories, items for charity sales and bingo, flags for parties and competitions, children’s costumes, soiree heads, lanterns, flags, artificial flowers, and other miscellaneous items. It was located at 210 Rue de Rivoli, Paris. Maison Bail was a company founded by Charles Bail in 1881 and passed to his widow and children after his death in 1889. I have seen a Maison Bail trade catalog dated 1900 showing some of their products. I found no information on the closing date or the fate of the Maison Bail.

CONDITION:
Good condition, there are some light stains due to aging, located mainly on the closure ribbons.
