Description
Antique French ceramic bistro cup, traditional bistro cup for hot coffee, brulot cup Creil Montereau, antique heavy ceramic cup for coffee with blue details.
DESCRIPTION:
Here is a very lovely traditional cup for coffee, made in heavy ceramic, with blue filets and decorations on the handle, the cup has the mark Leboeuf et Millet, Creil Montereau, this mark has been in use from 1867.
These kinds of cups are called in French “Brulot”, they were used in French Cafes in Paris and Bistros all over France for many decades, but they went out of fashion around the 1950-60s.
The brulot cups were so heavy as to stand up to the constant abuse of handling and washing and to keep the coffee piping hot, they have all the “charm” that so many ordinary utilitarian French things have!
The brulot cups are now so hard to find as they are much sought after by French collectors.
The other brulot cups visible in my last photos are available listed separately.

Good antique condition, no important chips and no hairlines, wonderful antique patina with light tea staining and some signs of age and use.
