Antique French Fabric-Covered Box, Early 1900s, Ikat Floral Motif, Miniature Couple Scene

DESCRIPTION:
Exquisite French box from the early 1900s, entirely covered in fabric with an ikat floral motif featuring delicate rosebuds in shades of pink, dark pink, sage green, and lilac on a beige background. The sturdy cardboard inner core provides structural integrity. Adorning the lid is a round miniature depicting a couple in a bucolic landscape, reminiscent of the 18th-century style. The miniature is framed by bronze-toned metallic passementerie, which also edges the lid. The interior is lined with the same fabric used on the exterior. These refined boxes were used to organize the ladies’ boudoir, often meticulously crafted by themselves, received as small gifts from friends and acquaintances skilled in cartonnage art, or purchased from department stores and shops of the time.

MEASUREMENTS:
7″ by 7″ (17.8 cm by 17.8 cm), height 2 3/4″ (7 cm).

CONDITION:
The box is in good condition, with a solid structure. The fabric retains its vibrant colors, displaying a slight patina from age on the outer side. Minor signs of wear are present on the edges and corners of the lid, and the passementerie is slightly detached in some areas.
