Antique French ironstone plate KG Luneville, advertising plate multicolor transfer decor “à la Samaritaine”, Terre de Fer collectible plate.

DESCRIPTION:
Antique and rare French ironstone plate signed K & G Luneville, this is an advertising plate for “A’ la Samaritaine” Paris department stores, dating to the early 1900’s.
The plate has a very lovely multicolor transfer decoration in tones featuring dogroses, bell flowers and scrolls, in tones of pink, yellow, light blue and green, in central area there’s a pink ribbon with the advertising written “A La Samaritaine”.
This kind of plates were gifts for the customers of the famous Parisian department store “La Samaritaine”.

SOME HISTORY:
La Samaritaine, an iconic department store, had an immediate success that was a direct result of the transformation of French society after the French Revolution.
A new bill, passed afterwards, indeed stated that anyone had the right to sell products they had not manufactured!
The Industrial Revolution then triggered a massive consumption impulse and by chain reaction the development of shops selling affordable goods.
La Samaritaine’s success was linked to its ideal location.
It is indeed a stone’s throw from Saint-Germain-l’Auxerrois Church and the Louvre Palace.
But above all, the unique commercial approach of its founder, turned it into the most successful department store of Paris!
La Samaritaine is named after a water pump!
Ernest Cognacq and Louise Jay met while working in the already well-established Le Bon Marché department store.
On March 21, 1870 the Cognacq-Jay opened a “grand magasin de nouveautés ‘ (new fashion store) in the 48m2 backroom of the Café de la Samaritaine.
This cafe then stood at the corner of Rue du Pont-Neuf and Rue de la Monnaie.
They named their shop after the water pump that supplied water to the nearby Louvre from 1608 to 1813.
The Samaritaine pump was decorated with a sculpture representing a Samaritaine – a woman from Samaria in Palestine, who gave water to Jesus on His Way of the Cross.

Very lovely antique French advertising earthenware plate highly collectible, really special also to use as decoration, especially if you love antique French advertised plates and ceramics!

CONDITION:
This plate is in good antique condition, with no shocks and no hairlines, to signal just light scratches due to knives and some tiny manufacturing defaults, colors are bright and beautiful!

Diameter is 7 5/8” (19.3 cm).
