Description
Antique French or German die cut chromo with angels, images de pain d’épices, die cut chromo angels for gingerbreads, dating early 1900’s.
DESCRIPTION:
Very lovely die cut chromos featuring angels with holly branches, there are 3 angels with blod hair and pale yellow dress and 3 angels with brown hair and pink dress.
These die cut chromo angels were originally made to decorate gingerbreads.
These chromos come from a Museum of gingerbread and Alsatian popular Art, they were once used on gingerbreads or to make Christmas decorations (glued on stars made of silver threads for example…) the family making these decorations during Advent kept the children busy and made the decoration of each home unique.
During Victorian and Edwardian era this kind of chromos were also collected in albums and used for scrapbooking and to hand craft cards as gifts and keepsakes for Valentine Day, Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries or other significative dates.
The 6 angels are attached to a black cardboard, I have decided to leave as they are, it would be easy to detach them by wetting them slightly.
These antique Victorian ephemera and chromos are just beautiful, I am always amazed by the accuracy and beauty of the antique chromo pictures you can find in them…
Price is for the cardoboard complete with 6 angels.
