Description
Antique French QUILT boutis, chiné silk with design of roses, flowers and bows, frilled border made with matching ribbon, hand stitched.
DESCRIPTION:
Here is a wonderful and rare antique French quilt, light weight and entirely hand stitched, dating to the late 1800’s or to the early 1900’s. Front side of the quilt is made from chiné silk fabric, with mottled decoration. This technique was invented by the Grande fabrique Lyonnaise in the 18th century. The design shows out-of-focus design depicting bouquets of roses and flowers tied with bows on a light beige base. The colors are very lovely, there are tones of blush pink, terracotta, mauve, aqua green, gold yellow, turquoise blue and green. The quilt is entirely edges with a frilled ribbon in matching design. The reverse side of the quilt is made from natural color silk.
This quilt is hand stitched with a diamond shape pattern.
HOW TO USE IT:
This antique light weight quilt would look beautiful when used as a throw on a small sofa or armchair, it will give to your interior decor a true French country Provence atmosphere!
CONDITION:
Condition of the silk side is good, there are some slightly timeworn areas near edges, but nothing too detracting, there are no important stains to the floral side. The reverse side is more damaged, there are some halos and dark stains, along edges there are some areas with small cuts and unstitching traces, I would be glad to send more photos on request.
MEASURES:
Measures: 52 1/4″ by 62 1/2″ (133 cm by 159 cm).
