DESCRIPTION:
Stunning young men’s shirt / chemise, traditionally worn by French peasants and workers, dating to the late 1800’s.
This antique shirt coverall is made from natural color homespun hemp or linen, there is a red hand-embroidered monogram JV, the shirt has grey mop buttons.
The detailing is amazing, the button holes are hand-embroidered, intricate hand gathering at back of neck and cuffs, front pleats and square pieces of fabric added under the sleeves for easy movements.
The sewing work and construction of this shirt are a work of art by themselves, it is so incredible to see how the ordinary clothes, rough and rustic, were treated with the greatest care and sewn with utter skill.
