Antique German Religious Artwork, Glass Chromo with Maria and Gold Embroideries, Early 1900s, Collectible Christian Art.
Beautiful antique German religious artwork from the early 1900s. This oval-shaped piece features a chromolithograph of Madonna and Child on a black background, framed by a golden ogive with intricate goldwork embroideries, gold sequins, and embossed paper garlands. Above the image is a golden paper scroll with the raised inscription “Maria Kevelaer.” The artwork is set in a simple brass frame with convex glass.
This piece originates from a Marian shrine in Kevelaer, located in the Lower Rhine region near the Dutch border, dedicated to the “Maria Consolatrix Afflictorum.”
MEASUREMENTS: 7 7/8″ by 5 7/8″ (20 cm by 14.7 cm)
CONDITIONS: The artwork is in very good condition, with only the hanging ring missing.
