Antique ironstone French dessert plates, set of 4 dessert plates, Months of the year, terre de fer talking plates with Months, FF Pexonne.

DESCRIPTION:
Very lovely set of 4 antique dessert plates, these ironstone plates have a beautiful border decor with tiny pink ramage and medallions showing the four seasons, in the central area of each plate there is a scene in tones of black and grey, dedicated to a Month of the year: January, February, May and July, these kinds of plates are called “talking plates” (assiettes parlantes), they were produced usually in series of 12 pieces, each serie had a theme, for example rebus, literary works, famous monuments, historical events, proverbs, etc…
Usually, these plates were brought to the table at the end of the meal and were intended to stimulate conversation and entertain guests.
The plates are signed F F Pexonne and date to the late 1800’s.
Price is for the set of 4 plates.

CONDITION:
The plates are in good antique condition, there are no ruptures and no hairlines, they have a lovely antique patina with some darkening and tea staining due to aging and use.

MEASURES:
Diameter is 7 5/8″ (19.3 cm).
