Antique Italian Lady’s shoes, floral design lamè silk, signed by famous manufactury of luxury footware Gio Cappa, with provenance

DESCRIPTION:
Wonderful antique Italian Lady’s shoes, floral design lamè silk with ivory color base and flowers in tones of blush pink and bronze color, decolletè shape with bows, spool heels, dating to late years 1910’s, on the sole the hand written name of the owner, an Italian noblewoman…. who could know how many histories these shoes could tell us?
These elegant and refined lady’s shoes are signed by the prestigious italian manufactury of luxury footware “Calzaturificio Gio. Cappa e Figlio”, based in Turin, among the suppliers of the italian Royal House.
Manufactory Gio Cappa was founded by Giovanni Cappa in the late nineteenth century, the son Virginio, with the Giuseppe Calegaris (later Grand Officier of the Kingdom and delegated to the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Calfornia) and a third partner, named Rocca, created in 1909 the “Shoe Company Cappa Rocca & C.”, marketing footwear under the trademark “K – Matchless Shoes” (note: CAPPA is how you pronounce the letter K in Italian).
Virginio continued his artisanal activity with a partner, Eugenio Jachia, at least until the years 1950’s. Gianfranco Pittarel, “Cobbler of the Popes”, so nicknamed for creating special footwear for Pope Paul 6th, Pope Giovanni Paolo 2nd and Pope Benedict 16th, recalled that he had learned the secrets of his trade doing the apprentice at Virginio Cappa’s.

Another wonderful and precious detail to notice in this refined lady’s shoes is the name of the noble lady which owned them, hand written on the sole!

These lovely antique shoes surely have been the perfect final touch for the outfit of an elegant Italian lady of Downton Abbey era and surely has great stories to tell us!
