DESCRIPTION:
Very lovely antique enameled allumettes box, kitchen match holder, dating 1920’s-1930’s. The match holder is enameled in red color and decorated by white checks in Lustucru style.
This kind of match holder were used in every kitchen of the past times, they were essential when wood stoves and fireplaces were used to cook.
Some history: enameled kitchen items with a checkered design were used as advertising premiums in France during 1920’s-1930’s. “Per Lustucru” noodles brand launched an advertising campaign, either blue and white or red and white check design enamelware (such as pans, canister set, coffee biggin, salt box, etc…) were offered to devoted housewives who clipped portions of the product packings to accumulate points. So the checkered French enamelware of this period was long associated with the image of Per Lustucru brand.

CONDITIONS:
Conditions of this allumettes box are very good as you can see form photos, there are only some rusty chips on the lid edge and vertical edge but nothing detracting. Interior of the antique match box is clean with no rust, there are no holes.
