Antique Italian gown for a young girl (circa 10 years old), dating to the early Victorian age (ca 1845/50), from the collection of a noble Sicilian family. The gown is made from light beige silk satin fabric, it has short sleeves, the waist is still a bit high, with a central deep point enhanced by a piping in the same fabric, the lace collar is a later addiction.
The sleeves are embellished with ribbon work garlands and rococò silk rosettes, the skirt is enriched with a horizontal strip of silk with pinking, gathered to create a ruffle and arranged is a serpentine line so that the ruffles alternate on each side of the strip, the ruffled strip is enriched with ribbon work oval garlands with silk rosettes.
May be that the silk fabric and the trimming could be earlier, as it was common for clothes to be taken apart and remodeled to suit the latest styles.
The silk gown and ribbon work decorations are in good conditions, with no important wear. There is a yellowish stain to the central area of the bodice, other brownish stains on the back of one sleeve and some stains to the lower area of the skirt.
The product has imperfections or a patina due to its age, as can be seen in the photos. Please take a close look at the pictures before making your purchase!
